Tess Mix is 32 years of young, dwelling in Brooklyn NY. She’s been documenting the spirits and bar industry for the past 8 years. We had a few questions for her – about the past, present and future:
What changes do you hope occur in our industry over the next 3 years? The next 10 years? *
In the next three years I want to see more green bartending. More recycling, more composting. I want that for the world. I would also like to see more interesting secondary spirits for bartenders so we can see more diverse cocktails.
What advice would you give your 16 year old self? *
It gets better. I promise.
If you could sit and have an open conversation with anyone, living or deceased, who would it be, and why? *
Today at this very moment I can’t hide from the political. By “open” I would think possibly confrontational in some way. I would like to talk to Robert Mueller and ask him what there is in this investigation. I want to know what is wrong with the USA.
Is there a particular location in the world you’d like very much to visit, and what do you hope to find there? *
I would LOVE to visit Newfoundland. It seems like the land of my dreams: The northeast, cold, calm and solitary. I would like to think I would find some kind of peace.
If you weren’t in the hospitality industry, what would you be doing? *
I would be a masseuse, so still in the hospitality industry.
What’s your favourite time and place to have a drink, what are you having, and who are you having it with? *
mmmMMMMmmmm…. Hartley’s, my local, Sunday afternoon with a cider, my dog and a book. After a pint, my twinny Ivy Mix would should up with Claire Sprouse and we would while away the day.
What’s your ultimate one liner that describes your mission in life *
I’m made of steel up front,… but if you look to closely, it changes.
